If I’m a UK national living in the UK – do my ID and proof of address documents need to be certified/notarised?

document registration

Customers who use any of our our Mail Forwarding Services are required to submit ID and proof of address documents before their service can be activated. Depending on where these documents were issued, sometimes they need to be notarised or certified.

In short:

  • If a document was issued in an EU country that’s not in the UK it needs to be certified
  • If a document was issued in a non-EU country it needs to be notarised
  • If a document was issued in the UK it does not need to be certified or notarised

As a final point, it’s worth noting that documents can require a mix of the above. For example, a French national living in Brazil would require that their ID be certified and that their proof of address be notarised. Whilst if it were a UK national living in France, their passport wouldn’t need to be certified or notarised but their proof of address should be certified.
